Setting up a router is not an easy procedure, but we are ready to help you understand all its intricacies. Just read the instructions below carefully, and then in just a few minutes you can easily set the desired parameters and get started!

#1. Connection

Before you independently configure the router through a computer, you need to connect it:

  • Plug the internet cable into the WAN / Internet port;
  • Install the end of the network wire to the LAN port of the device;
  • Place the other end into the connector on the PC;
  • Plug the model into a power outlet and press the power switch.
  • Ready!

We hope that this short instruction helped you figure out the first steps, but for more details about the connection process, you can read on the website. Now you can safely go to the instructions, which tell you how to set up your WiFi router yourself.

# 2. Login to the web interface

We want to warn you that setting up a WiFi router online through a browser can only be done after turning on the device. When you activate the work, distribution of the wireless network with factory parameters (login, password) will begin. You can change the settings of the router in a special web interface that each device is equipped with.

Important! To open the configuration interface, you need to connect your computer to the device. Internet is not required.

To open the site for configuring the router, do the following:

  • Open your browser;
  • Enter the IP address in the address bar;
  • In the window that opens, log in - enter your username and password.
  • The address, network name and pin code for entering are indicated on a sticker located on the back of the router.
  • Some devices do not have login information - you need to set it after logging into the interface.

Please note that some manufacturers set the parameters on their own - then nothing needs to be done during the initial start-up.

# 3. Setup Instructions

Most routers have a special wizard option that will help you quickly set the desired parameters. For example, here, the item is called "Quick Setup":

The most important thing you need to configure is:

  1. Internet connection;
  2. Wi-Fi is a network.

Let's tackle the first parameter first. Our main goal is, of course, the work of the Internet on devices:

  • Open the tab with general parameters... Most often they are located in the WAN or Internet section;
  • Specify the type of connection of the provider, username and password - you can see the information in the agreement;
  • If the provider requires you to go through the binding of the MAC address, specify the necessary data (from the contract).

Important! If the provider uses (DHCP), then the connection to the network will occur automatically. Skip this section of the instructions, you do not need to reconfigure the router.

  • Open the section called Wi-Fi. It may be called otherwise - Wireless / Wireless / Wireless mode;
  • In the field "Network name" or "SSID" enter a new name (only in Latin);
  • In the "Wireless network key" field, enter your invented identification code;
  • Protection type - WPA2 - Personal;
  • Change the region to the location on the appropriate line;
  • Save your changes.

If you want to change the settings of the router, we recommend that you change the factory access code. This is important if you want to protect yourself from unauthorized entry. Here's how you can do it:

  • Find the section for security or privacy settings;
  • Change the data to a new, reliable code.

All of the above instructions apply if you need to set up a new router instead of the old one or install completely new equipment. By the way, we suggest you watch a general video on how to set up a router. It is perfect for those who are not confident in their abilities, because it shows the entire process step by step and in detail!

Now you know everything about how to set up the Internet on a Wi-Fi router through a computer - use our article to achieve the result. Just follow the instructions and in a few minutes you will be successfully online.

IMPORTANT! Before setting up your phone, first check if you are within the range of a particular wireless Wi-Fi connection. You can use your home Wi-Fi, or you can connect your Iphone to free networks, for example, in cafes or shopping centers.

So let's start:

  1. We go to the home screen and go to the "Settings" menu.
  2. Then it will automatically start searching for available Wi-Fi.
  3. Choose a name and connect.

This method is suitable for connecting to unsecured routers, for example, in public places.

If you connect to a secure Wi-Fi, then the sequence will be slightly different:

  1. Open the "Settings" menu.
  2. We are looking for the line "Wi-Fi" and enable the option.
  3. After automatic search for Wi-Fi, select the desired access point.
  4. Enter the password and click "Connect".

If in this way you cannot connect the phone to Wi-Fi, then you are entering the wrong password. In order to find out the correct one, contact the Wi-Fi administrator.

DO NOT FORGET! To connect your phone to a secure Wi-Fi you need to know the password, next to such connections the "lock" icon is displayed.

There are also situations when you need to connect your phone to a hidden access point that is not displayed in the general list. To connect a smartphone, you need to know the exact name of Wi-Fi:

  1. Open the "Settings" menu.
  2. We are looking for the line "Wi-Fi" and enable the option.
  3. Click "Other" and enter the exact name.
  4. We press "Security".
  5. After that, you need to select the type of protection, as shown in the illustration below.
  1. We return to the "Other network" item and enter the password.
  2. Click "Connect".

The most common problems when trying to connect an IOS phone to Wi-Fi

It often happens that it seems that they did the right thing and followed the instructions, but nevertheless it is impossible to connect the phone with the IOS operating system to Wi-Fi. Do not despair and think that the saying "Technique in the hands of a monkey is a piece of iron" about you. Most likely, this is not a technical glitch.

If you cannot connect your phone to Wi-Fi, do the following:

  1. Check the router connection. Also, make sure you are within range.
  2. Check that the Wi-Fi option is enabled on your smartphone. Go to "Settings", then to "Wi-Fi". If there is a blue check mark next to the desired name, it means that the connection in the phone is complete and problems are observed in the router.
  3. If you want to connect your phone to Wi-Fi at home, check if the cables are connected correctly and if the router is configured correctly.
  4. Reboot your IOS phone and reconfigure it.
  5. Reboot your router and reconfigure it as well.

If all else fails, try the following:

  1. If you are trying to connect a smartphone in a public place, contact an employee of the establishment and ask him to set up Wi-Fi.
  2. Check the connection on other devices, such as a laptop, or ask others if the Internet works for them. If the other devices are also not connected, then there is a problem with the Internet provider. Contact your internet provider.
  3. Try to connect to another location or to a different Wi-Fi. If attempts are unsuccessful, contact a service center to check your Iphone.
  4. Update the firmware version of your router and check that your smartphone is on the list of supported devices.

How to connect Android to Wi Fi

Many people think that setting up an Iphone is really not an easy task. Few would argue with this statement. But about Android, many believe that these are easy-to-use smartphones that even a child can figure out. However, in fact, when trying to set up Wi-Fi, there may be some difficulties here.

In general, the popularity of Android is growing every day. Probably, there is no longer a person who would not have a smartphone or tablet with the Android operating system in the arsenal of home appliances. Even the smallest children today actively use these gadgets instead of the usual toys, dolls, cars, etc. But at the same time, few people know how to properly configure Wi-Fi.

It is worth connecting a smartphone once and in the future the smartphone will independently connect to Wi-Fi. But it's not uncommon to see situations when you need to manually configure Android.

For a visual illustration, we will use the LG G4 smartphone with the version of the Android 5.1 operating system. However, the model does not matter, android smartphones are almost the same.

Before you start configuring Android, you need to set up Wi-Fi by turning on the adapter. The adapter can be turned on in two ways:

  1. Through the toolbar.
  2. Through device parameters.

The first method is very convenient: swipe your finger across the screen (from top to bottom) and see the toolbar, as in the figure:

We are looking for a Wi-Fi button with a corresponding icon. Click on it and thus activate the Wi-Fi model.

After that, the system starts searching for available wireless networks and the following list appears on the screen:

Choose the one you need and connect. If it is password protected, enter a combination of characters and click "Connect". The whole process is automated and does not take much time.

Another question is if the connection is hidden in the parameters of the router or the DHCP function is disabled. Then you need to configure Android manually.

How to set up Wi-Fi on Android manually if the connection to the router is hidden

As with the first method, we first need to enable the adapter. But the methods listed above do not suit us for this. Changing the strategy: first go to "Settings". And then we act depending on the version of the phone. We find the item "Wi-Fi" and open its menu. We turn on the adapter. If you have an earlier model, then find the item "Wireless networks" and select "Set up Wi-Fi". We translate the adapter into the on position.

Next, go to manual search available connections: You will be presented with a list of access points that were found automatically. If you are connecting to a hidden network, click "Add Wi-Fi":

Enter the exact name of the hidden access point (SSID) and proceed to security, as in the illustration below.

Turn on the search for Wi-Fi networks on your gadgets, laptops and computers - and you will see how popular wireless access technologies are, and how densely they have penetrated into apartments and offices. The range of some routers is sometimes striking: when searching for networks, you can easily find a network even, for example, on the other side of the street and connect to it. And dual-band routers allow you to avoid collisions and free up the air using a higher frequency.

Typically, laptops, smartphones, TVs and gaming gadgets require an internet connection. Fundamental differences in the method of connection have operational Windows systems, Android and iOS. Let's consider them in order.

We connect a laptop and a computer to our router via Wi-Fi

To connect to wifi, you need at least know the password (data encryption key in case of network and traffic encryption). Consider connecting a laptop or stationary computer to an already configured and functioning router remotely.

Our goal is to connect to the internet and to local network.

We check that:

  • The router is connected correctly to the ISP and is distributing the Internet.
  • The Wi-Fi adapter is installed, functions correctly, the drivers are installed and fresh.

Connecting via WPS

The easiest, no knowledge required, way to connect to a router is through WPS... It can be hardware (using a hardware button) or software (using a pin code).

The button is pressed once and not for long (just a second press) both on the router and on the WI FI adapter.

After one or two minutes, the router and the adapter themselves "agree" with each other about the addresses and encryption password, and the Internet becomes available on the device.

Sometimes the device may not have a WPS button, but still support it. In this case, the WPS PIN is indicated on the label: when setting up the wireless network, the OS will ask you to enter it.

Despite the apparent simplicity of the connection, it is deceiving: when activating the connection to wi-fi using WPS, three procedures are involved:

  • generating a key (password);
  • encrypting the generated password
  • imposing additional encryption on the channel using a certificate.

Due to the incomplete transparency of this procedure - you do not know the password and connection parameters - it is recommended to use the standard connection option with the key input.

If the router was not initially configured, then by entering the WPS PIN, you can configure all the network parameters as desired: its name and key.

Standard option for connecting laptops and computers to the router

Let's take a look at how to connect to the wireless Internet through a pre-configured router.

All modern laptops are equipped with a Wi-Fi module. But a stationary computer should be equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter.

Pay attention to:

(1): All available wifi networks are visible here. We select our network (2), click (3) Connection to connect to the modem and, accordingly, the Internet.

A window appears prompting you to enter a password (security key); and if the key is entered correctly, an icon of a successful Internet connection will appear:

Your computer can successfully use the resources of the local home network and Internet access through your router.

Connecting smartphones and gadgets to the router

For smartphones and mobile gadgets, connecting to the Internet through a router is an opportunity to save on traffic and, accordingly, money when paying for services to the operator. 4G network requires more resources and battery power than wireless access, so a smartphone will "live" longer with the Internet from a router without a GSM service provider. Any smartphone equipped with a Wi-Fi module can connect to the Wi-Fi of your router.

Let's consider how to connect when the Internet is configured and distributed by an access point.

Android OS

Let's demonstrate step by step how to connect the Internet via a router using an example of a smartphone with Android OS.

  1. In the settings of your smartphone, turn on the Wi-Fi module, available networks will be automatically scanned.
  2. Select your network from the list.
  3. Enter the network key (which was entered at the stage of setting up the router).
  4. If the connection is successful, the corresponding signature "Connected" will appear.

If you cannot connect to a network device, restart both the device and the smartphone. Check the settings of your Internet distributor and try to reconnect to the wireless network as described above.

IOS OS

We will analyze step by step how to connect gadgets with the iOS operating system to the router.

In the "Settings" section, select the "Basic" section, where you can check the activation of the wireless module: when you move the slider to "ON", an automatic search for networks available for connection occurs. Choose your network and enter the password (network key).

If the key is correct, the iPad and iphone will successfully connect to the Internet.

Connecting to an unknown network device

Above, we discussed how to connect to a home access point, the parameters of which are known. However, there are situations that require connecting to someone else's equipment remotely, without data on the key and connection parameters.

Let's consider how to connect via Wi-Fi to a router in this case.

Password guessing

Home network users, due to inexperience, little knowledge and laziness, rarely compose complex keys. Therefore, the question of how to connect to a wireless network is not difficult to solve: there are a number of programs for selecting a key using a dictionary. For example, WiFICrack.

This program also solves the problem of how to connect to a hidden network that does not send broadcast packets. It is enough to scan the broadcast, tick the boxes of those networks, the connection to which you are interested in, download the dictionary (you can also use the built-in one) and start selection.

As a result, the file Good.txt will be created, containing the names of the networks and their keys, which we managed to find.

Interception and cracking of a password

Programs for capturing and decrypting packets of wireless networks are also available via the Internet. The essence of the method: even in the absence of correct authentication, the network device exchanges packets with the connected gadget, which contain the key in encrypted form. Isolation of such packets and their decryption is the way to reveal the key.

This is a class of programs for advanced users with knowledge of computer security.

One example of this class of programs is Airslax.

Works with WPA / WPA2 traffic decryption and WEP encryption. The numbers indicate:

  1. Scanning the air, finding all networks, their signal levels, encryption options and other features.
  2. Decryption target selection. Networks are ranked in the list in ascending order of their signal strength.
  3. The process of intercepting the selected network.
  4. Disconnecting the client from the point to initiate a re-authentication process: the first 4 packets contain the encrypted key.
  5. Password guessing for a captured WPA / WPA2 encrypted hash shake using a dictionary.
  6. Saving the results.
  7. Automatic WEP key guessing: a large number of DATA packets are collected, and authentication is tried for every 5000 collected DATA packets.
  8. Points are scanned here with the possibility of authorization via WPS.
  9. Using Reaver or Bully, the pin code is selected.
  10. Automatic operation mode.

Security of your own network equipment

Having casually examined the main methods of standard and unauthorized connection, let us recall the basic basic requirements for your own equipment.

  • Change the default usernames and their passwords on the router. Many people neglect or forget to follow this simple procedure, leaving a loophole for attackers.
  • Enable encryption, which is the most difficult to decrypt - WPA2. It will significantly complicate and increase the hacking time; attackers would prefer a simpler network to connect.
  • Restrict access by mac address. While it is easy to change the address of a network card, restricting the MAC address is a necessary procedure to protect the internal security loop.
  • Change the Wi-Fi access key at least every six months. Even if attackers do connect to your network equipment, connecting regularly and repeating the hacking procedure will force them to find a more accessible victim. This will not save you from unauthorized connections, but will significantly reduce the likelihood of hacking. Safe and fast connections for you!

Today it is difficult to imagine a modern apartment or even more so an office not equipped with the appropriate set of office equipment: computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones. And where all these devices are available, the Internet should naturally also be available. He firmly entered our life, occupying one of the most prominent places there. On the Internet, we study, work, have fun, relax, communicate. Therefore, the comfortable provision of access to the World Wide Web for yourself and your loved ones is a problem that sooner or later each person has to solve. Fortunately, now we have a reliable assistant that allows us to carry out the most effective and simple solution to this issue without special additional intellectual and financial costs. This is, of course, about Wi-Fi technology.

But in order to use the "air" Internet, you need to know where to find and how to enable Wi-Fi on your computer. We have tried to present the answers to these questions in the current article.

What is Wi-Fi?

Wireless internet technology has become a part of our daily routine. We habitually identify Wi-Fi with convenient, reliable and fast Internet access, which we encounter at home, at work, in public places - at airports, cafes, shopping centers.

Answer the question "what is Wi-Fi?" the simplest way is this: it is a network protocol, with the participation of which communication is carried out between an "access point" and a "client", or an "access point" and several "clients", packet data is exchanged in a local network or through the World Wide Web.

Currently, the abbreviation Wi-Fi does not mean anything and is not officially deciphered in any way, however, when creating this protocol, the developers "gave it a name" by analogy with Hi-Fi (High Fidelity). It stood for "Wireless Fidelity" - wireless fidelity.

Benefits of using

Of course, the "air" Internet is not an ideal technology. Several examples can be given at once of what difficulties may arise when using it. One of the most widely known is the so-called "noisiness" of the connection. In the range used by this protocol, many household appliances (for example, microwave ovens) emit, alternative connection devices (for example, Bluetooth) work. Walls and floors can also create interference. All this negatively affects the speed and quality of access.

At the same time, there are no less positive aspects from using it in home and office conditions. Here are just some of the most obvious ones:

  1. Low cost wireless networking and multiple access points that provide consistent coverage across the entire territory. At the same time, there are no cables, extension cords and adapters that constantly get confused and clutter up the space. "Air" connection is indispensable in premises of historical value, as well as in premises with obstructing architectural features;

  2. This protocol provides full access to the Internet for any device - be it a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer - without being tied to a specific location. Access to the global information space through this protocol is the ability to comfortably use the Internet while lying on your favorite couch;

  3. Wi-Fi allows you to synchronously use a large number of active connections. Once you've established a wireless connection, you don't have to worry about how many computers and mobile devices will simultaneously go online.

What are the types of Wi-Fi modules for a computer?

All popular devices are now equipped with adapters by default. They can be connected to the Internet out of the box, but what about those with a stationary computer? The answer to this question is obvious - you need to purchase an additional Wi-Fi receiver, install, connect and configure it.

We'll talk more about how to install Wi-Fi on a computer below. Now we propose to determine what receivers are, what is their difference, specificity and advantages.

Air adapters are of two types: external and internal. External are the most commonly used and easier to operate. An external receiver is like a miniature USB drive (flash drive). It connects to the USB connector on the front or back of the computer, either directly or via a USB cable.

The internal adapter is slightly larger and requires opening the computer case to install it. Therefore, only buy the internal receiver if you are confident you can figure out how to install it on your own. motherboard... When installing the internal module, you must first disconnect the antenna from it, insert the board into the corresponding port on the motherboard (for this, the PCI interface is most often used) and return the antenna to its place.

Further manipulations for installing and turning on wireless adapters do not differ and do not depend on the modification and method of connection to the computer.

How do I install the drivers?

Any Wi-Fi receiver is supplied with a disc from the manufacturer, which contains the drivers necessary for the full operation of the device. In addition to drivers for a specific device, the disk may also contain drivers for other models of adapters, so during installation you need to be careful not to miss the choice of the device for which the drivers are installed.

The rest of the driver installation procedure is standardized and provided with an intuitive interface with detailed prompts from the Found New Hardware Wizard. Just carefully read the messages that will appear on the screen, and click the corresponding buttons "Next", "OK" and "Finish".

Most adapters are automatically recognized by current computers and can work even without installing drivers from the bundled CD. It is enough to connect the device to the required connector and wait a few seconds. As a rule, after that, a message will appear in the "tray" stating that new equipment has been found, identified and installed, which is already ready for use. Nevertheless universal drivers cannot completely replace specialized software... Therefore, we advise you not to neglect the installation of drivers, even if everything works flawlessly at first glance.

The CD with drivers for your Wi-Fi receiver model may also contain a special utility from the developers, which is designed to facilitate the process of setting up an Internet connection. Moreover, this utility will allow you to further control your Internet connection, monitor the speed and volume of data transfer.

How to set up Wi-Fi in WIN XP?

For this guide, we will assume that your Home Access Point and Internet Dispenser are already configured.

So, to establish an "air" connection on a computer with Win XP OS, you need to do the following:

  1. Open the "Start" menu;

  2. Select "Network Neighborhood";

  3. In the "Network Connections" window, find the "Wireless Network Connection" icon;

  4. Click on the icon right click mouse and click "Properties" in the list;

  5. In the "General" tab, find the item "Internet Protocol TCP / IP";

  6. Click the "Properties" button.

If it is critical for your provider to use specific ip and dns addresses, then in the window that opens, check the "Use the following ip address" radio button. If these parameters are configured in automatic mode, then do not touch anything.

When manually configuring ip, you need to fill in the following fields:

  • IP-address: 192.168.0.2 (You should check this parameter with your ISP, the value may be different);

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0;

  • Enter the address of your router or modem in the line "Main gateway", usually it is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. But in order to avoid mistakes it is better to check the documentation of your device;

  • Click to activate the "Use the following DNS server addresses" radio button and fill in both the primary and secondary DNS server fields. Information about the DNS servers used by the provider can be found on the official website of the telecommunications company or by calling technical support;

  • Without closing this window, select the "Wireless Networks" tab on the top and check the "Use windows to configure the network" checkbox in it. Then click the "Wireless Networks" button. Here you will see a list of all available connections. Select the connection that is configured on your dispenser and click the "Connect" button. Now, in order to connect to the Internet, it remains to enter the username and password you know.

How to set up Wi-Fi in WIN7?

There are two ways to set up an "air" connection in Win7 OS: in automatic mode and manually. The second option can be useful if the network to which you plan to connect is hidden from the general list for security reasons, but you know the name and password to connect your computer to it. Let's look at both methods step by step.

Installing Wi-Fi in Win7 OS in automatic mode

When loaded operating system in the lower right corner of the screen, you can see the Wireless Network Connection icon. Click on it. This will open a list of "air" connections available to you. you need to choose from the list the one that is configured in your modem or router.

Installing Wi-Fi in Win7 OS in manual mode

To configure the connection manually, select "Network" in the system tray, then "Network and Sharing Center". Click "Setting up a new connection or network." At the next stage, we mark the parameter "Connect the wireless connection manually" and click the "Next" button.

In the next dialog, fill in all the appropriate fields: specify the network name, encryption type and security level. In most cases, the default settings can be left unchanged - use AES and WPA2. In the "Security Key" field, you must enter the password for the connection. For greater security, check the "Hide characters" box so that the password cannot be read because of your shoulder.

The final touch - if you plan to use this connection as the main one in the future, then check the box "Start this connection automatically". Then click the "OK" button.

Installing the device in Windows 8

To connect wirelessly in Win8, do the following:

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the system tree on the taskbar or call Settings Charm through the Charms Bar (similar to pressing the win + I combination). The Wi-Fi panel will appear on the right side of the screen;

  1. you will see the entire list of wireless networks available for connection. Select the one that is configured for you and click the "Connect" button;

  1. The next step is to check the conditions for connecting to the network. The system will check the requirements of the selected network and offer to enter the required data;

  1. After checking the network requirements, the system will prompt you for a password. Enter the security key you know and click the "Next" button;

  1. If the password is entered correctly, you will see the message "Connection complete", which means that the Internet connection is established.

How do I turn off the device?

To turn off Wi-Fi or edit the previously entered data, select the wireless networks icon in the tray (relevant for Win7 and Win8) and select the one that you configured earlier in the drop-down list of all available connections. To disable, use the Disable button, and to edit - right-click and click Properties. In the "Connection" and "Security" tabs, you can either disconnect the device or make changes to the password, encryption type or security level.

For Win XP, you need to do the following:

  1. Start menu;

  2. Network Neighborhood icon;

  3. "Wireless connection";

  4. In the list that opens, select the established connection and click the "Disconnect" button.

Plug the internet cable into the WAN (or Internet) port of your router (aka router).

Connect the router to the computer: insert one end of the network cable into any of the LAN ports of the router, and the other into the connector of the PC network card. You can use a wireless connection instead of a cable, but it is best not to do this during the setup phase.

Plug the router into a power outlet. If your device has a power button, press it. Then wait a minute or two for the router to boot up.

2. Check the Internet

If your router was pre-configured by the provider or received settings in automatic mode, then the Internet can work in a few seconds after connecting the router to the PC.

To test, launch your browser and try opening several sites. If there are no problems with access to web resources, you can skip the fourth paragraph of the article.

In the address bar of your browser, enter 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and press Enter. One of these IP addresses should lead to the router's settings menu. If both options do not work, find the required IP address in the documentation for your router model and try to enter it.

When the page for entering the settings appears in the browser window, the system may request a username and password. Most often, during the initial connection, one word is suitable for both fields - admin... Less commonly, router manufacturers use the combination 1234 .

If necessary, you can find the login information in the instructions for the router or on the provider's website. Well, or try an alternative one.

4. Set up your internet connection

If the Internet still hasn't worked, the router needs special settings. Exactly what options you need depends on your specific device model and Internet service provider. There is no universal configuration. To obtain the necessary instruction, check the provider's website or request it from support.

Once you've obtained a setup guide for your model, follow its prompts. If in the process you set up both an internet connection and home network Wi-Fi, you can skip the fifth paragraph of the article.

To get Wi-Fi, it is important to choose the correct security settings.

In the settings menu, find the section responsible for wireless network(see the documentation for your router model). Be sure to ask here strong password(you will need it to connect your devices to the router via Wi-Fi) and select WPA2-PSK as a means of protection.

6. Change the password to enter the router settings

Just in case, it's best to restrict outsiders' access to the router's settings menu. If the router is still protected by the default password, replace it with your own.

Find the settings section that is responsible for the security (see the documentation for your router model) of the device, and enter a new strong password here. Save your changes.

If your computer has a Wi-Fi module, after completing the setup network cable can be pulled out of the PC and connected to the router wirelessly.

7. Install the router in an optimal location

Ideally, the router is in the center of the area where you are using Wi-Fi. Thus, the signal will be equally available to all connected devices.

The fewer walls, furniture, and other obstructions between the receiving device and the router, the better the wireless network will perform.
